The Pastor Reverend Doctor Barbara Y. Glenn
The daughter of Elvin and Katie Liggins, Rev. Glenn was born in Washington, DC and was raised in Xenia, OH, where she attended both public and private schools. Upon graduation from high school, Rev. Glenn attended Central State University in Wilberforce, OH.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bowie State University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History Education.
She began teaching in the Archdiocese of Washington, DC, and later in the public schools of Prince Georges County, MD. Also, she served on the Advisory Board for teacher preparation in the content areas at Bowie State.
Her Ministry
After entering the ministry, Rev. Glenn attended Howard University and graduated with honors with a Master of Divinity Degree. She served as a representative on the National Council of Christians and Jews at the Intersem East Conference. She also received several awards, including a Ford Foundation Fellowship and Benjamin Mays Fellowship. As part of the Ford Fellowship, she worked with Hospice Care of Washington, DC and later developed a Ministry of Comfort at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Ft. Washington, MD. During her tenure at Ebenezer, she was Minister to Youth and Family and helped initiate several ministries related to those areas.
Rev. Glenn holds a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. Her doctoral work was entitled Kinfolk One-Anothering: A Model of Care for Women Growing Spiritually Through Relationships.
Rev. Glenn has conducted workshops in the areas of marriage, youth, and women. She has served as Chaplain for the United College Ministries of Northern Virginia and has taught at The Maple Springs Bible College Seminary. Rev. Glenn is the former Pastor of First A.M.E. Church in Alexandria, VA and is the former Conference Coordinator of Women in Ministry. She currently serves as a member of the Board of Examiners of the Washington Annual Conference.
Her beginning at First A.M.E
In 2002, at the Washington Annual Conference, Rev. Glenn was appointed pastor of First A.M.E. Church, Gaithersburg, MD, the Miracle in Gaithersburg. Rev. Glenn has enjoyed over 40 years of marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Rev. Marvin T. Glenn, Jr., who serves as the Assistant Pastor at First A.M.E. Church, Gaithersburg. They are the proud parents of Lisa Ruffin and Marvin T. Glenn III. They have five grandchildren: Jasmine and Jason Ruffin and Myles, Parris, and Ezekiel Glenn. |
